Preservation Outreach Manager

The Preservation Outreach Manager creates and manages strategic programs and outreach initiatives that engage the community, educate the public, and further the mission of the Foundation. From written communication to classes to property redevelopment programs, the Preservation Outreach Manager will bring creativity and enthusiasm to grow nascent programs and build new initiatives that will inspire preservation work and ethos on the island. This position will be the eyes and ears for the Foundation and the preservation community, attending all Town commission meetings and related department meetings, to keep a pulse on issues affecting preservation policies, and writing a monthly newsletter to inform the community. The Preservation Outreach Manager will work with the President and the Director of Preservation Planning to strategically advocate on behalf of the Foundation as needed. The Manager will need to forge important relationships with Town officials, architects, and other professionals in the area to provide support that promotes preservation in a collaborative way for the community, and to create programming that advances the protection of Palm Beach’s historic architecture and green spaces.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Advocacy
    • Represent the Foundation at all critical Town of Palm Beach meetings, including Landmarks Preservation Commission, Architectural Review Commission, and relevant Planning and Zoning, and other, meetings.
    • Write and disseminate a monthly newsletter that highlights issues to watch in the month ahead that are of public importance, and synopsizes cases from the previous month. The issues will be explained plainly, so as to appeal to as broad of an audience as possible, further establishing the Foundation’s service to the community. This educates the public and allows them to advocate in the cases they wish to get involved in.
    • Alert President, Director of Preservation Planning, and board when needed to important issues that have arisen that may impact the island’s architecture, green spaces, historic sites, or other parts of the Foundation’s mission.
    • Discuss Town issues with Town of Palm Beach staff, commissioners and applicants as necessary.
    • Collaborate with President and Director of Preservation Planning, and the board when needed, on strategy regarding advocacy, and taking a public stance on behalf of the Foundation.
  • Education and Engagement
    • Plan and host regular educational offerings for area Realtors. Current offerings include office trainings and symposia. These can be expanded upon to further incentivize local Realtors to prioritize the Foundation’s mission areas.
    • Plan and host classes and lectures throughout the year that help people understand the best ways to protect and restore sites on the island. Topics can range from Town processes to materials restoration, always with a practical bent to empower people.
    • Establish a new Legacy Business Program that celebrates historic businesses on the island. Determine ways that we can support them, and promote them, while simultaneously highlighting that their longevity is part of the Foundation’s cultural mission.
    • Establish a Landmarks Appreciation Club. The first Landmarks appreciation mixer is in the works. The Manager will take it to a new level, offering incentives and promoting owning a Landmark as highly coveted.
    • Create materials that can be disseminated to Town residents that promote preservation and encourage property owners to come to the Foundation for assistance, and embrace our mission.
    • Dream up fun programming that can engage new members and expand the Foundation’s reach. Past ideas have been home tours, a book club, and lectures featuring nationally lauded speakers. Collaborate with the Vice President to schedule programming.
  • Property Redevelopment
    • Explore development of a revolving fund for the Foundation that could take property protection to the next level.
  • General
    • Support Director of Preservation Planning in their efforts as needed.
    • Advise President and Director of Advancement on donor relations or community member relations as needed.
    • Advise on social media and web content as needed.
    • Advise on Foundation award winners, as needed.
    • Work with accountant on budget needs.
    • Help with Foundation fundraising events and programming as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree required, with preferred specialization in preservation, architecture, history, or related field. Master’s degree preferred. Nonprofit experience, or professional experience in historic preservation or a related field a plus. Enthusiasm for historic preservation, the town of Palm Beach, and the mission of the Foundation is a must!

SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION:

This is a full-time position, eligible for all benefits, including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, paid time off, 403B retirement, and more. Base pay for this role is $75,000, with higher compensation considered depending on experience.
